Frequently Asked Questions
My own vehicle is currently undriveable or I will be without a vehicle when my own is repaired and I need transport?
You must ensure that your own policy of insurance does not entitle you to a replacement vehicle or a courtesy car whilst repairs are being carried out. If it does then we would advise you to exercise that option so that no unnecessary hire charges are incurred.

Under the Award Scheme we will arrange, in appropriate circumstances, for you to be provided with a replacement hire vehicle by an independent hire company whilst an engineer inspects your own vehicle and prepares a report. How long you can hire a vehicle for and incur the hire charges depends on several factors. If you only have third party fire and theft cover, and you are not in a position to pay for the repairs to your vehicle. Or if you have a comprehensive policy, until the repairs to your vehicle are carried out and your vehicle is returned to you or you receive settlement for the pre-accident value of your vehicle from your insurer's. Provided there are no delays.

You should note however that you are under a general duty to mitigate your losses (keep them reasonable) and that you will be primarily responsible for any hire charges incurred. Although you will be not be asked to settle the hire account upon termination of the hire those charges will be included as an additional item of claim. The hire Company will usually agree to await payment of the hire until conclusion of your claim or up to 12 months from completion of the hire, which ever occurs first.
