Frequently Asked Questions
My motor insurance policy is third party fire and theft only, what do I do in relation to the damage my vehicle has sustained?
Under the terms of a third party fire and theft policy your own insurers only have a liability to meet any claims that are brought against you arising out of the accident. You must recover the cost of the repairs or the pre-accident value of your vehicle from the other party together with any storage and recovery charges.

As part of the Award Claims Scheme, once your claim has been accepted under the Award scheme an independent firm of motor engineers will be instructed to carry out an inspection of your vehicle and prepare a written report on the estimated cost of repairs or if it is an economic write off, its pre-accident value. This report will form the basis of your claim for this particular item of loss.
